Roulette Table Layout

The roulette table layout is something that you should understand or at least know about if you expect to win in this game. Here are some basic pointers about the roulette table layout that would prove very helpful.

Roulette Table Layout: The Basics

A typical roulette table layout contains all the 38 numbers in the wheel plus a few more options that stand for black, red, even numbers, odd numbers, high numbers, and low numbers. Note that in the European table layout, there are only 37 numbers – 0 through 36.

In this presentation, let’s take the American roulette table layout as an example. If displayed lengthwise, the roulette table layout will show you the top two numbers, which are the two zeros (0, 00). After that are the rest of the numbers from 1 through 36, arranged into three columns.

So for the first row in the roulette table layout, you have numbers 1-Black, 2-Red, and 3-Black. Just like in the wheel’s layout, the roulette table layout also alternates the even and odd numbers, as well as the colors black and red. This goes on until you reach the last row comprised of the numbers 34-Red, 35-Black, and 36-Red.

At the bottom part of the single-number columns are three 2:1 ratios. These along with the other sets of betting options outside the three columns are called the outside bets in roulette table layout. The numbers inside the three columns are called the inside bets in roulette table layout.

Roulette Table Layout: Payoffs, Odds, and Bets

As stated above, the roulette table layout generally allows only two kinds of bets – inside and outside. The inside bets in roulette table layouts are also called layout bets. You have the option to bet Straight Up wherein you place a bet in a single number on the roulette table layout. That gives you the odds 35 to 1. Not many people make the Straight Up bet because of the odds presented.

Players who want to make inside bets have other options aside from the Straight Up bet. They can bet on 2 numbers which is called a Split, 3 numbers called a 3-Line, 4 numbers called a Corner, 5 numbers, 5 numbers, or 6 numbers. Each time they place their money on a specific portion of the roulette table layout, their odds and payoffs change.

The same thing happens if the player makes outside bets on the roulette table layout. Outside bets are usually groups of number bets from 12 to 18 numbers. You can make a Column bet or a Dozen, both of which are comprised of 12 numbers from the roulette table layout. You may also go for 24 numbers – Split Column and Split Dozen – or choose to bet on Even/Odd, Red/Black, or High (1-18) or Low (9-36). The last three options on the roulette table layout pay even money 1:1.

Roulette Table Layout – Neighbor Bets

Aside from those mentioned above, the roulette table layout may also offer other betting options, called Neighbor Bets. These are commonly found in European roulette table layouts and in single-zero wheels.

The neighbor bets are characterized by the fact that the player may place his chips on a single number and his bet covers all the numbers in the roulette table layout surrounding that chip. There are six types of neighbor bets and these are the Voisin du Nombre (Number Neighbors Bet), Voisins du Zero (Zero Neighbors Bet), Tiers du Cylindre, Orphelin Plein, and Orphelin Cheval.
